Are we witnessing Chelsea's fall from grace?

Riyad Mahrez, Julian Alvarez, and Phil Foden each scored once as Manchester City cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium, handing Chelsea their fifth loss in as many games and eliminating them from the FA Cup. For the first time in 25 seasons, Chelsea was unable to advance to the fourth round of the FA Cup. Chelsea’s last chance of winning a trophy this year is the Champions League, where they will play Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16. However, based on the results of this match, Chelsea won’t be winning the European Cup in Istanbul in June.

For the eleventh time in a row, Man City will face the winner of Monday’s game between Arsenal and League One team Oxford United in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Manchester City defeated Chelsea with ease to secure a fourth-round FA Cup matchup against either Oxford United or Arsenal, and they didn’t even require the assistance of prolific attacker Erling Haaland.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of City, started this game with Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, and goalkeeper Ederson on the bench despite the quality of the opponent. The starting lineup did not include Joao Cancelo, Ilkay Gundogan, or John Stones. 18bet is one of the best all-around casinos!

But the home team had the game won before halftime by scoring three goals to end Chelsea’s prospects of a successful outcome. This was a foreboding sign of City’s depth in their squad and the lack of confidence in Chelsea’s.

Chelsea may have endangered this record if they had been able to take advantage of City’s depleted roster, but Guardiola’s clubs throughout his career — Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Man City — have never experienced elimination at the first hurdle of a domestic cup tournament.

However, the Chelsea club had dropped four of their previous six games coming into this match, and even before Riyad Mahrez scored the game’s first goal, it seemed certain that the Blues would suffer another loss at the Etihad.

While City performed as if they were being put through a typical training drill by Guardiola, Chelsea played like a bunch of strangers without any type of strategy. Everything was too simple, and Chelsea was more fortunate than City to win by a score of 4-0.

City will probably have a considerably stiffer challenge when they play the Gunners in round four unless League One outfit Oxford pulls off a massive upset against Arsenal on Monday. However, Chelsea played so poorly in this match that even mediocre Oxford may give City a tougher time if they advance to meet Guardiola’s team.

Graham Potter is battling to keep his job as manager of Chelsea. Despite having only taken over at Stamford Bridge in September, the former Brighton manager is already starting to resemble David Moyes during his terrible season leading Manchester United. He may survive till the end of the season. Numerous reasons contributed to Moyes’s demise at Old Trafford, but many of the errors committed by the Scottish manager at United are being repeated by Potter.

Moyes found the transition from Everton to United to be too great, and it appears that Potter needed a stopover between Brighton and Chelsea as well rather than making such a significant transfer without the necessary expertise.

Similar to Moyes, Potter has continued to work with the coaches and assistants from his former position, moving them all to Chelsea, although they are also unqualified. Additionally, Potter is repeating Moyes’ error of being overly candid and pessimistic while addressing the media; after all, a manager occasionally needs to play up a situation even when it is dire.

Results, though, are ultimately the largest comparison. Like Moyes, Potter is losing all of his important matches, and his players are starting to lose interest. Whatever message Potter is attempting to convey, it isn’t getting through to Chelsea’s players, who looked to contract after Julian Alvarez made it 2-0 for City from the penalty spot after 30 minutes.

When things went wrong at Chelsea, Potter’s lack of major-league experience always promised to go against him, and that is now coming to pass. Both Moyes at United and Potter are experiencing it. It is difficult to understand how he improves his status after this moment.

Since 1998, when Stamford Bridge was not anticipated to win trophies, Chelsea has not advanced past the third round of the FA Cup since their defeat at the Etihad.

Chelsea’s supporters are becoming increasingly agitated at the thought of no major honors this season since they have become accustomed to victory in all of the big competitions since the 5-3 loss to Manchester United 25 years ago.

However, when fans began to chant the names of former club executives Roman Abramovich and Thomas Tuchel in the second half, it signaled trouble for the current management team.

In September, less than 18 months after Chelsea won the Champions League, Tuchel was sacked as manager. The squad was led to the FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals last season by the former Paris Saint-Germain boss, but Liverpool won both on penalties.

Tuchel was well-liked by the supporters, but after a subpar start to this season, new owner Todd Boehly decided to fire him and replace him with Brighton manager Graham Potter. Boehly, who has presided over a spending binge of more than £300 million since purchasing the club from Abramovich, is also hearing the name of his predecessor being chanted by supporters because they believe many of his choices have weakened the squad and organization.

Russian oligarch Abramovich, who had ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, was forced to sell the club as a result of British government sanctions, but the Chelsea supporters won’t soon forget how he turned the team into a dynasty. In May, American Boehly, a portion owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, completed the purchase of Chelsea.

If the club doesn’t start winning soon, the clamor from the fans will only become louder. Potter and Boehly both appear to be a very long way from following in the footsteps of their predecessors.
