Fabrizio Romano claims that Karim Benzema and Real Madrid are close to agreeing on a new contract. A contract extension is anticipated to keep the legendary France forward at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium for another season after his current agreement expires in the summer of 2023.
It is believed that the transaction will soon be finalized because Benzema has already informed Los Blancos of his decision to accept the club’s contract offer.
The decision to retain Benzema for one more season has the support of the club’s board, president Florentino Perez, and manager Carlo Ancelotti.
This is not surprising given the influence the former Lyon player has had since relocating to Spain. In just 46 games last season, he scored 44 goals and assisted another 15, 15 of which came in the Champions League as he led the team to its fifth championship. His eight games this season have resulted in four goals and an assist, bringing his career total for Real Madrid to a very outstanding 327 goals and 160 assists in 613 appearances.
Erling Haaland of Manchester City has been linked to Los Blancos, although Benzema is still the uncontested top scorer for the time being.
N’Golo Kante is also searching for a new team since he doesn’t think Chelsea will extend his contract, according to FootMercato.
The 31-year-old Kante’s future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain as his contract expires at the end of the current campaign. In his seven years with the Blues, the France international has won nearly everything there is to win at the club level, including the Champions League and the Premier League. He has only made two appearances this season due to recent injury issues, and no new contract offer has been made to replace his present £9 million-per-year agreement as of yet.
According to FootMercato, Kante is content to remain in London, raising the possibility of a transfer to one of Chelsea’s regional rivals, Arsenal or Tottenham.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is considering acquiring defender Inigo Martinez from Athletic Bilbao during the winter transfer window.
Since Martinez’s contract expires at the end of the season, Barca, who now has four injured defenders, is trying to expand its alternatives at the back.
Due to knee issues, the 31-year-old has played in just three league games this year. Martinez would only be pursued by Barca if the player’s knee problems were resolved and the transfer fee was fair.
