The hosts’ Mario Hermoso scored a late goal, but they were unable to tie the score, and the defender was dismissed in stoppage time. Despite a strong start and chances for Diego Simeone’s team through defender Felipe and Yannick Carrasco, they fell behind at 18 minutes when Rodrygo decisively converted the visitors’ first shot on goal. With their subsequent attempt, they increased their advantage when Valverde struck from close range after Vinicius’ shot had hit the post and bounced.

Seven minutes from the end, Atletico created a thrilling finale with a header from substitute Hermoso. However, Hermoso was later dismissed for a second booking, and Real held on to win the game.  With a win, Real rejoins Barcelona at the top of the LaLiga standings with 18 points after six games. Eight points behind their neighbors, Atleti is in seventh place.

Monza scored a stunning but deserved 1-0 home win over Juventus – their first Serie A victory of the season – as the visitors struggled after being relegated to 10 men. Five minutes before halftime, Angel Di Maria returned from injury, but his comeback was cut short when he was dismissed for elbowing Armando Izzo in the chest.

Substitute When he slid in the game-winning goal from Patrick Ciurria’s cross in the 74th minute, Christian Gytkjaer emerged as the victor. Coach Jose Mourinho of Roma will not play against Inter after he was dismissed in a 1-0 loss to Atalanta.

After rushing onto the field to argue with the referee, Daniele Chiffi, who had given Atalanta a free kick rather than what Mourinho believed should have been a penalty for his team, Mourinho was shown a red card in the 57th minute.

Mourinho became even more agitated and had to be held back by a member of his crew.
