Although the digital renderings did not depict this year’s vehicle, the VF-23, which is likely to remain under wraps until its track debut at a shakedown event at Silverstone on February 11, the American team is the first F1 team to reveal its color palette for the next season.
Haas’ new appearance differs from the VF-22’s mostly-white livery, which was hurriedly changed before the 2022 season when the team severed connections with its longtime title sponsor Uralkali.
In addition to being the corporate colors of MoneyGram, a payments and money transfer corporation that signed a multiyear agreement with the team during last year’s U.S. Grand Prix, the 2023 design also features the three colors formerly used by Haas.
In the future, Haas should have comparable spending capacity to F1’s best teams, according to Haas team principal Guenther Steiner, who stated at the time of the MoneyGram announcement that the partnership will allow Haas to operate at the upper limit of F1’s budget limitation.
The team’s eighth-place position in the constructors’ championship last year was the best since 2018 for Haas. The vehicle driven by Kevin Magnussen in the No. 20 and newcomer Nico Hulkenberg in the No. 27, who will take Mick Schumacher’s place at the team this season, are depicted in the renderings provided by Haas on Tuesday.
Team manager Steiner stated: “I obviously share everyone’s enthusiasm around the livery unveil, not least as it’s a checkpoint in the preseason calendar which means we’re another step closer to doing the thing we actually want to be doing — and that’s go racing.
“It’s an exciting time of year for Formula One and it’s great that we’re first out the gate to showcase our livery but our attention is firmly on getting the VF-23 on-track and preparing for the season ahead.
“We really have something to build on following last year’s performances. The whole organization has been working hard to reach this point and obviously in Kevin and Nico we have two proven points-scoring talents locked in behind the wheel. Before all 10 teams run together in F1’s official preseason test in Bahrain from February 23 to 25, Haas will be among the first teams to take the track with its new vehicle during the shakedown of the VF-23 at Silverstone on February 11.
Shakedowns before formal preseason testing are frequent and make use of a team’s “filming day,” which is permitted by the tight testing regulations of Formula One and entails 100 kilometers of private track time for advertising reasons.
On March 5 in Bahrain, the inaugural F1 race will be held.
